Sendai City Museum was opened in 1961 for the purpose of preserving, exhibiting, and studying materials related to the history and arts of Sendai, including those donated by the Sendai Date family. The museum was totally rebuilt in 1986 (two storied reinforced concrefte body with a total floor space of 18,000㎡).
Sendai City Akiu Visitor Center
This visitor center provides a beautiful landscape created by the abundance of animals and plants of Zao National Park and the prefectural natural park of Futakuchi-keikoku gorge together with the surrounding mountains and ravines. From season to season, you can also enjoy events such as nature observation tours, bird watching, craft workshops using materials gathered from the mountains, and cross-country skiing classes.
The Miyagi Museum of Art
The museum showcases a collection of Japanese-style paintings, western paintings, woodcuts, sculptures, and handicrafts. The collection of art ranges from the Meiji period through to the present day and are all closely related to Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku Region. There are also collections from Kandinsky, Klee, and Schiele.
Sendai Mediatheque
This multi-purpose facility has a gallery, library, visual image center and provides information for those who are visually impaired or those who have difficulties with hearing. With no interrior walls, it is very spacious and can accommodate a variety of functions.
Akiyu Craft Village
This particular area has craft shops of Kokeshi dolls, spinning tops, Sendai-tansu (chests of drawers), bogwood carvings, tea sets, naturally processed wood, and traditional woven and dyed products.
