Banji-iwa (Scenic spot)

Outline

Natori-gawa River is divided at Hongoya into Osawa River and the main river. The southern part of Mt.Daito-dake on Osawa River side is called "Ura-banji" which is on in the western part of Anedaki waterfall. The left side of Natori-gawa River is called "Omote-banji" and the right side, "Hikage-banji". They are all surrounded by sheer cliffs and deep narrow valleys. In paticular, Omote-banji shows its panoramic landscape with its 80-150 meter high vertical cliffs which are as long as 3 kilometers. Small cascades, the greenery of spring and the colors of autumn emphasize the beauty of this scenic spot which is why it was designated as a place of scenic beauty in 1945.

Highlights

The long row of cliffs that make up Banji-iwa are covered in tuff and the cliffs provide an overwhelmingly magnificent view as a scenic spot in the Futakuchi Gorge.
