Outline
Hirose-gawa River comes from a source in the Funagata-yama mountain range. It also merges into the Nikkawa River, Aoshita-gawa River, Okura-gawa River and other rivers to increase its volume of water and finally merges into Natori-gawa River at Koriyama, Taihaku. The river is enriched with more than 90 different kinds of fish, including char, yamame, sculpin in the upper reaches of the river, and sweetfish in the mid-town streams. Hirose-gawa River is known as a beautiful clean river that represents Sendai. This first-grade river which is 45.5 kilometers long has a lot of well developed river terraces. You can enjoy rustic scenery such as natural cliffs and sandbanks all without having to leave the heart of the city. In 1985, the river was selected as one of 100 exquisite water sources in all of Japan. An ordinance was formed in 1985 to ensure that the Hirose-gawa River would be kept pure and clean. This was the first time in Japanese history that a regulation of this sort was introduced.
