Natori-gawa River is divided at Hongoya into Osawa River and the main river. The southern part of Mt.Daito-dake on Osawa River side is called "Ura-banji" which is on in the western part of Anedaki waterfall. The left side of Natori-gawa River is called "Omote-banji" and the right side, "Hikage-banji". They are all surrounded by sheer cliffs and deep narrow valleys. In paticular, Omote-banji shows its panoramic landscape with its 80-150 meter high vertical cliffs which are as long as 3 kilometers. Small cascades, the greenery of spring and the colors of autumn emphasize the beauty of this scenic spot which is why it was designated as a place of scenic beauty in 1945.
Rairai Gorge
Cliffs on both sides of Rairai Gorge are divided by the Natori-gawa River and the sharply eroded huge rocks hanging over the river add a spectacular view of natural wonder. Unique names are given to these rocks such as "Hachiken-iwa" and "Nariai-soko". All the rocks are made of quartz and esite-tuff (also called "Akiyu-ishi") because it is a highly fire resistant material which is used for construction.
Oku-Nikkawa Line/Nikkawa Line
These two valley walkways start from Oku-Nikkawa station on the JR Senzan Line and extend to the east (Nikkawa Line) and the west (Oku-Nikkawa Line).
Hirose-gawa River
Hirose-gawa River comes from a source in the Funagata-yama mountain range. It also merges into the Nikkawa River, Aoshita-gawa River, Okura-gawa River and other rivers to increase its volume of water and finally merges into Natori-gawa River at Koriyama, Taihaku. The river is enriched with more than 90 different kinds of fish, including char, yamame, sculpin in the upper reaches of the river, and sweetfish in the mid-town streams. Hirose-gawa River is known as a beautiful clean river that represents Sendai.
Akiyu Otaki Falls: A national scenic beauty
Akiu Otaki becomes a much more fantastic scenic spot during the freshness of summer and during autum when the splendid foilage is at its best. This 6-meter wide, 55-meter high waterfall is one of the three great falls of Japan. Visitors can enjoy a closer view of this dynamic fall while feeling the cool breeze brush against their cheeks. Akiu Otaki Botanical Garden which is located near the fall, grows pretty flowers of the Mt.Zao flower system.
