April is the best time of the year to see cherry blossoms in Sendai and Tohoku. The Tohoku region is also one of the few places in Japan where visitors can see cherry blossoms and snow at the same time. A visit to Sendai City and the Tohoku Region is a must for cherry blossom viewing!

  
 
 
 

This site was chosen as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing sites in Japan. Visitors will see a blanket of cherry blossoms in an array pinks hues, covering the 1,000 or so cherry blossom trees which line eight kilometers of the riverbank. Here one can see both the snow speckled Mt Zao, and the spring cherry blossoms - a rare treat!

Getting there:

  • By train from Sendai station to Ogawara station approximately 35 minutes

  • By bus from Sendai station approximately 1 hour
