April is the best time of the year to see cherry blossoms in Sendai and Tohoku. The Tohoku region is also one of the few places in Japan where visitors can see cherry blossoms and snow at the same time. A visit to Sendai City and the Tohoku Region is a must for cherry blossom viewing!

  
 
 
 

This site was chosen as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing sites in Japan. Over 10,000 different varieties of cherry blossom trees are planted throughout the extensive parklands. Approximately 700 cherry blossom trees line the Kitakami River, stretching almost 2 km from the Sango Bridge.

Getting there:

  • By bullet train from Sendai station to Kitakami station approximately 50 minutes, 15 minutes by taxi from station

  • By bus from Sendai station to Kitakami city approximately 2 hours
