Since long ago, copper has been called "Akagane". At the Akagane Workshop, you will see and touch copper, which you rarely have the opportunity to come into contact with in daily life. We hope you will come to understand the transformation of "Akagane" copper as it is shaped and heated from a thin sheet into art. Furthermore, in this workshop experience you will use tools such as hammers that have been passed down by craftsmen for many years. You’ll be able to feel a connection with the past craftsmen of this 400-year-old Sendai craft while creating your own original item using traditional techniques.

Before the castle town of Sendai was constructed, Zenzo, the founder of Tazen, came to Sendai from Osaka after his coppersmith expertise was discovered by Date Masamune. Through this akagane workshop, we would like to convey the history of Tazen, which has been closely linked to the development of the city and people's lives for more than 420 years, and expresses the attraction of working with copper.
