Tea is an essential part of Japanese culture and daily life, though even some Japanese people don’t know the characteristics of various teas and the best way to prepare them. Here at our family-run teashop our goal is to create a place for locals to gather and tea lovers to explore. We are not a shop designed for visiting tourists, but a place for locals to gather and tea lovers to explore. However, since we hope to share more about the characteristics of Japanese tea, we are offering this program for interested travelers.
In a separate program we introduce “matcha” powdered green tea.
For this program, an expert teashop staff will share the wonders of “sencha,” tea brewed from dry tea leaves. At Bashoen, we stock sencha from Shizuoka and Gifu prefectures, tea regions with different flavor profiles.
--> “Shizuoka” tea has a thick umami flavor.
--> ”Gifu” tea is aromatic with a crisp bitterness.
We will show you the most delicious ways to prepare these types of tea during the experience.
