“Kamaboko” fish cake is popular in Miyagi Prefecture because of the rich fishing grounds along the Sanriku Coast. Kanezaki makes a special kind of kamaboko called “sasa-kamaboko” or “bamboo leaf shaped fish cake,” which originated in Sendai. The reason for the shape is that the original domain crest used by the founder of Sendai, feudal lord Date Masamune, features two sparrows surrounded by bamboo leaves. Why not try making your own handmade “sasa-kamaboko” at our amusement facility Sasakama-kan? Make a reservation at the first floor information desk at least 20 minutes before the session.
After making and eating the tasty fried kamaboko, explore the rest of the facilities. You’ll find shopping, restaurants, and art. Don’t forget to visit the Tanabata Museum to learn about Sendai’s popular “Star Festival.” You even have a chance to make your own Tanabata festival decorations!
