A uniquely Sendai experience using Yanagiu Washi, handmade paper crafted from kozo (paper mulberry) grown in Sendai's Yanagiu district.

A one-of-a-kind piece made with Sendai washi (Japanese paper) and a Tohoku kokeshi (traditional wooden doll).
Yanagiu Washi has been made in Sendai for about 400 years.
In this experience, you tear the washi into pieces, paste them onto a kokeshi, and finish the face with felt-tip pens.
No special skills are needed — though fitting the paper onto the kokeshi's curved surface is a fun little challenge.

Kokeshino SHIMANUKI CO.,LTD

Our historical shop inside the Sendai shopping arcades sells kokeshi dolls and various crafts from Miyagi and Tohoku. Some Sendai crafts and special items sold in our shop are not sold at any other store. Besides shopping, visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences such as kokeshi doll painting or making an LED candle.

Our shop is filled with kokeshi (traditional wooden dolls), along with crafts and goods from all over the Tohoku region. With crafts available only at Kokeshi no Shimanuki, it's fun just to browse — and a perfect place to find souvenirs.
