A uniquely Sendai experience using Yanagiu Washi, handmade paper crafted from kozo (paper mulberry) grown in Sendai's Yanagiu district.

Yanagiu Washi (Japanese paper) has been made in Sendai for about 400 years.
This handmade paper, unique to this land, began when Date Masamune, the samurai lord who founded Sendai, invited artisans to the area. Its raw material, kozo (paper mulberry), is grown in Sendai's Yanagiu district, and the paper is still made here today.
All you do is tear the washi and paste it on. No special skills are needed.
Make something you can only create in Sendai, with washi you discovered in Sendai.

Kokeshino SHIMANUKI CO.,LTD

Our historical shop inside the Sendai shopping arcades sells kokeshi dolls and various crafts from Miyagi and Tohoku. Some Sendai crafts and special items sold in our shop are not sold at any other store. Besides shopping, visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences such as kokeshi doll painting or making an LED candle.

Our shop is filled with kokeshi (traditional wooden dolls), along with crafts and goods from all over the Tohoku region. With crafts available only at Kokeshi no Shimanuki, it's fun just to browse — and a perfect place to find souvenirs.
