This is a uniquely Sendai experience using "Yanagiu Washi," a handmade Japanese paper crafted from kozo (paper mulberry) grown in the Yanagiu district of Sendai.

Yanagiu washi is hand-pulled washi that has been made in Sendai for approximately 400 years. It is a paper unique to this land, begun when Lord Date Masamune summoned skilled artisans to the region. The raw material, kozo (paper mulberry), is grown in the Yanagiu district of Sendai, and production continues in this area to this day.
Simply tear and paste this washi. No difficult skills required.

Kokeshino SHIMANUKI CO.,LTD

Our historical shop inside the Sendai shopping arcades sells kokeshi dolls and various crafts from Miyagi and Tohoku. Some Sendai crafts and special items sold in our shop are not sold at any other store. Besides shopping, visitors can enjoy hands-on experiences such as kokeshi doll painting or making an LED candle.
