Make your own original kokeshi doll! Choose wood from various shapes and sizes then start painting!

Choose either a normal size kokeshi doll (15-18cm) or a smaller cute mini-size kokeshi doll (6-7cm). Then paint your own original kokeshi. Workshop staff will provide instructions and advice.

Ganguan Kokeshi

Sendai Kokeshi (Sakunami type, also known as Enakichi kokeshi) are characterized by a simple and modern design painted in two colors, red and black, on a thin piece of wood. Sendai type kokeshi dolls, which had been fading away from popularity and production, have been handed down for 4 generations at this shop. We also produce original cute and miniature kokeshi dolls. Experience a modern style full of personality combined with the history of a tradition passed down from generation to generation.

Then walk 15 minutes. ・Board the bus heading towards “Akiu Traditional Crafts Village” at the Aoba-dori Avenue bus stop (operated by Takeya Kotsu) *Reservation required only during winter season.
