Learn about Sendai’s famous Tanabata festival then make your own lampshade from traditional Washi Paper, a favorite of Date Masamune!

Without Yanagiu Washi Paper, a traditional craft unique to Sendai, there would be no Tanabata Festival! Learn about the importance and characteristics of Yanagiu then make a lampshade made using the special paper. You’ll be surrounded by Tanabata festival decorations inside the Tanabata Museum, so this will be a magical hands-on and visual experience!
The lampshade is made from a kit, so children and adults can make it without too much difficulty.

Reservations accepted at the information desk in the cafe on the 1st floor of the Sasakamakan. Please register 20 minutes before the start time.

Kanezakisouhonten Sasakama-kan
The "Sasakama-kan" was created to express the Kanezaki company's “hopes” and “desires” together with our ongoing corporate philosophy of “delicious and fun”. Our company specializes in making "sasa-kamaboko" ("bamboo leaf-shaped fish cake"), which originated in Sendai. Our amusement facility, factory and store is somewhere you can fully enjoy the food and culture of Sendai and Miyagi. Visit us to taste and experience the attraction of kamaboko fishcakes!
